The ASRTS Committee, with support from the Ministry of Transportation and the City of London, are excited to announce the wayfinding signs program is reopening applications for the 2024-25 school year.
2025 Wayfinding Signs Applications are Closed. Schools will be contacted by March 5 to be informed of the success of their applications.
What are wayfinding signs?
Wayfinding signs are designed to help students, families, and community members navigate their way to and from school safely and efficiently. These signs indicate directions and walking or cycling travel times from various points in the neighbourhood to the school. They are strategically placed along routes with high foot and vehicle traffic to increase visibility and encourage their use.

How do wayfinding signs work?
Each sign shows clear directions and the estimated time it takes to walk or cycle to school. The signs are placed at different distances away from the school between 400 metres and 1.6 kilometres. At each sign location, fun activities can be added to engage children (i.e. hopscotch).
How do they help your students?
Finding your way around the community is a valuable skill that builds independence and confidence in everyday life. Sometimes our surroundings make it hard for children to participate in walking or cycling, so wayfinding signs make their travel routes easier to plan.
How much to Wayfinding Signs Cost?
The installation cost for wayfinding signs is approximately $2,000 and limited funding is available. If your school is able to contribute to full or partial funding, the number of schools able to participate would increase. The ASRTS committee will support all schools chosen to receive wayfinding signs, regardless of the amount of funding.
If your schools can fundraise $2,000 for the Wayfinding Signs Program, the ASRTS Committee will be able to provide administrative support to your school in order to get the signs printed and installed.
